Geert Hendrickx started playing the guitar at the age of 11. After a period of being self-taught, he took some private lessons and started playing in local bands. At the early age of 12 he won the guitar contest at Graspop Metal Meeting 2005. Eventually, he enrolled at the Academy of Sint-Truiden, where he graduated with first price. He continued his studies at the Lemmens Institute of Leuven where he took lessons with Peter Hertmans, Dre Pallemaerts, Frank Vaganée, Nicolas Thys, … Later he received a master’s degree at the Conservatory of Antwerp, where he took lessons with Frederik Leroux, Kurt van Herck, Bert Joris, Ben Sluijs, … Over the years he also had the chance to take masterclasses with John Scofield, Mark Turner, Gilad Hekselman, Will Vinson, Jesse van Ruller, Aaron Parks, David Liebman, and many more.

He is currently active in the bands Yskan, Zandland and Wandjina. With Wandjina he released an EP in 2017. Previously he played in Trykk (finalist JazzContest Mechelen), RAEKRM (EP in 2017) and led the band GIZMO, with which he had the chance to collaborate with American saxophone player Chris Cheek, and Belgian saxophone player Ben Sluijs. With GIZMO he released an EP in 2018. That same year, he also joined the Antwerp Jazz Orchestra  led by Bert Joris, featuring Joshua Redman. He functioned in the orchestra as guitar player and as arranger/composer.

Geert shared his music with the audience on many stages in Belgium, including Jazz Middelheim twice, with GIZMO feat. Chris Cheek and with his latest project Yskan.
